TREND ALERT 🚨 #Balletcore 🩰
A new trend, and one of my personal favourites, is taking inspiration from its namesake renaissance dance form and taking the internet by storm. #balletcore is taking silhouettes and styles worn by ballerinas and making it wearable and adoptable for those of us unable to stand ‘en pointe’.
#balletcore can look different for every individuals closet. From incorporating pieces like cardigans, tights, wrap skirts and let warmers to expanding your shoe collection to include ballet flats. You could try adding bows or lace to your outfits or simply playing with colours like whites/creams, soft pinks and black to textures of wool, silk etc to dip your toes into this new trend.
While ballet as a source of inspiration is not new, take Degas’ paintings or the infamous @chanel ballet flat for example, this time it is permeating through TikTok and high fashion down to your closet. Designer @simonerocha_ has always been a pioneer of this trend and the new season @miumiu ballets flats (and heels!) have created a buzz. Lest we forget the graceful, albeit controversial, photos from @sydney_sweeney’s look for the @lacma x @gucci gala, adorned in @giambattistavalli and pointe shoes 🩰
While is is beautiful and feminine, this trend has also brought the ballet industry more popularity, after being hurt by the side-effects of the pandemic, with more people going out to support the arts. And not just entertainment, more people are taking adult ballet classes now than ever, hoping to go back to their childhood, or be introduced to an art form they have longed to try. #balletcore also encourages inclusivity in the industry, encouraging people of all shapes, sizes and races to create their own version of the trend, pushing diversity in an art form known to be highly euro-centric and critical.
For more #balletcore, look no further than reporting by @oldloserinbrooklyn, @moeblackx, @chazlyn.yvonne or your favourite ballerinas
